Cooperative Learning, Multiple Intelligences and Multimedia
Hello Everyone! 🤗
In this post we are going to talk about: Cooperative Learning, Multiple Intelligences and Multimedia .
Firstly, I'm going to talk about Cooperative learning which is an effective teaching technique where small groups of students collaborate with each other towards a common outcome, explore and learn, and share a wide range of ideas and thoughts on a subject. Cooperative learning can help students practice skills like communicating, defending ideas, problem solving, resolving conflicts and also help them to improve their knowledge of language skills. Cooperative learning techniques promote student learning and academic achievement, increase student retention, enhance student satisfaction with their learning experience, help students develop skills in oral communication, develop students' social skills, promote student self-esteem, help to promote positive race relations.
There are five basic elements of cooperative learning that distinguish the cooperative learning from other forms of group learning: 1.Positive Interdependence: means that group has a clear goal so everyone knows they sink or swim together. 2. Individual accountability: where the student perform alone and learn together. 3. Face -to-face interaction students: promote each other's learning. 4.Interpersonal and Small-Group Skills: this helps students to develope skills such as effective leadership, decision-making, trust-building, communication, and conflict management. 5.Group Processing: here students analyze how well their learning groups are functioning and how well social skills are being employed. Moreover, there are some activities that are used in cooperative learning. For example: Jigsaw, Think-Pair-Share, Three-Step Interview, Round Robin Brainstorming, Three-minute review , Circle the Sage etc. These activities are very useful because it makes students to work together in groups or independently.
Another important thing is multiple intelligences which is a theory introduced by Howard Gardner in 1983. Howard suggests that each individual has nine intelligences: Verbal-Linguistic Intelligence: the ability to use words well both when writing and speaking.
Mathematical-Logical Intelligence: People who are good at reasoning, recognizing patterns, and logically analyzing and solving problems.
Musical Intelligence: the ability to produce rhythm, pitch and timber. Visual-Spatial Intelligence: capacity at visualizing things, directions, maps, videos, pictures etc. Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence: the ability to be good at body movement, performing actions, and physical control. Interpersonal Intelligence: the ability understanding and interacting with other people. Intrapersonal Intelligence: the ability of being aware of their own emotional states, feelings, and motivations. Naturalist Intelligence: the ability to recognize and categorize plants, animals and other objects in nature. Existential Intelligence: the ability to tackle into deeper questions about life and existence. Multiple intelligences it helps students to develop their talents and to be motivated. For example if a student is good with music, with this model it is possible to detect it and help him develop his great passion. Also it helps teachers to know strengths and weaknesses of each student, so that they get a more accurate view of how each one is and what needs to be done to stimulate their learning.
Multimedia is an important technology tool in education, that includes pictures, audio, video, graphics etc. This help teachers to make the lesson more interesting and attractive for children. By using multimedia in education increase learning effectiveness. Another important benefit of multimedia learning is that it enables learners to develop a deeper understanding of the material. Also helps teachers in becoming facilitator, engage students in active task, and cater the need of the students.
In conclusion, Cooperative learning, Multiple Intelligences and Multimedia are very important concepts for education. Those concepts make a powerful contribution to education and help to develop a learning environment to promote active learning.
Hi Fjona! Yes I agree with you that all these 3 concepts are very important for education and the future. So, good job for explaining them separately so it is understandable what role has each one in education.
